Idea launches Android smartphones, offers 16GB 3G data at Rs 261

The nation's third largest mobile operator Idea Cellular has launched two 3G-enabled smartphones priced at Rs 4,999 and Rs 6,250. These smartphones are based on Android 4.4 (Kitkat) operating system and are targetted at young students, professionals and first-time smartphone users.

In a bid to foster growth of mobile internet in country, the company said all new buyers of its 3G smartphones will get 16GB of 3G data worth Rs 3,200 for a recharge of Rs 261.
As per the offer, after the recharge, Idea users will get to use 4GB 3G data every month for the next four months and the customers will also get free subscription of Idea TV for four months.

"This is the first such offer by any operator or device brand in India offering huge data benefits bundled with 3G smartphones," Idea said in a statement.

"3G adoption is greatly dependent on pricing of 3G smartphones and data plans. By bundling 16GB 3G data with our entire range of smartphones, we have brought down the total cost of owning a smartphone, and 3G connection, by over 50%," Idea Cellular chief marketing officer Sashi Shankar said.
